The Day After
I’m back at the hospital until Sunday. Emily is sleeping over a friend’s house and she’ll go to school straight from there in the morning, which gives Jim a chance to sleep late tomorrow. He needs it. He described last night as one long I.V. beep-fest. he said he should’ve just had coffee and stayed up all night.
Ana had to have extra fluids in the I.V. last night because the chemo can cause bladder sores, so they need to keep a constant drip of fluid going. She also needed medicine for the nausea. I’m not sure if there was anything else. Every time a medication is administered through the I.V., it causes the I.V. to beep about 20 – 30 minutes after the medicine is given. So, this went on a lot last night.
Ana threw up once, but her nausea was controlled fairly well (apparently Benadryl is a potent anti-nausea medication). She hasn’t eaten much today, but she did eat a little bit (mostly fries while I was here). Her sense of taste seems to be affected, so she doesn’t want to eat much (her appetite is poor anyway).
I have more to write, but Ana just asked me to stop typing so she can sleep (ah well). Good night, all.
