It’s London, Baby!

As you all might remember, Ana came up with a wish list this past December after a particularly abysmal scan (that’s when her miracle no-side-effect drug Jakafi stopped working). Thanks to the generosity of many people (including just about all of you!), Ana has been gifted with many of these wishes and on Saturday, another will be granted thanks to Hensley Evans who pretty much single handedly made it happen. Actually, she did single handedly make it happen.
Hensley bought us tickets to London with her ample air miles (I think she’s in a plane as much as she’s home), arranged our stay at a flat in the heart of London (air B and B style), paid for the flat either directly or through the help of various partners at the firm where she works, and even bought us a London tourism book (which Ana has marked off with many sticky notes and plans to bring with us on our trip).
All we need to do is bring some spending cash (I withdrew some “wish money” so for those who donated, your generosity is definitely part of this wish.) and our walking shoes! Yes, I said “walking shoes.” Did I mention I’m an anxious traveler? Many of Ana’s wishes involve traveling which has caused a spike in my anxiety level. I promised her I would NOT freak out at the airport this time (she said, “you’re already freaking out. It’s going to happen.”)
The owner of the vacation flat where we’re staying called me yesterday. He knows about Ana (Hensley filled him in) and he wants to pay for her to see a Broadway show (or whatever the equivalent of Broadway is in London) for Ana and one adult – so I’ll be able to surprise her by taking her to see Phantom of the Opera! Now, before he made this offer, I’d already bought tickets to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (for all of us), which I’ve managed to keep a surprise as well (Ana is not part of this group, so I feel safe posting it here.) Other plans include a trip to the London Zoo, the London History Museum and a London Swimming Pool (I find when I add London in front of everything, it makes it sound better).
And of course we’re going to meet up with Ana’s pen pal – the whole purpose for the wish – likely on Sunday, the day we arrive. Pictures shall be forthcoming.
