Still no MRI results or diagnosis, but the pediatric surgeon finally showed up today to give us more information about Ana’s biopsy next week. He explained that he would make a two inch (or so) incision in her abdomen and take a large sample of both tumor and liver tissue. This should give them enough information to determine the origin of the tumor so they can plan out the best course of treatment. He’ll also put the central line in. It’s called a Broviac Catheter, for you medical folks.
She will need 24 – 48 hours to completely recover, but will be able to get up and move around within hours. The one good thing about this procedure is they are stopping the Lovanox injections until after the surgery since it is a blood thinner. So she gets a few day’s reprieve.
I finally came home after six straight days at the hospital and will try to stay away until Tuesday. I need Emily and she needs me (and we all need clean laundry). The house is a mess. It’s too empty. Emily and I aren’t big enough to fill all this space. I feel shattered. Our life as a family, my business, Ana’s and Emily’s childhood…shattered. I want to be strong, but my heart aches.
