Some More News
We’re still waiting for the official pathology report, but Dr. Elmacken (the oncology fellow who works with Dr. Hochberg) came in this morning and said they’ve pretty much narrowed this down to one specific thing. It’s definitely not EHE. I don’t want to post what they think it is yet because she wouldn’t even let me write it down until the pathology report comes through (hopefully in the next few hours). I don’t know if I’d be posting the right thing and also there is still a chance it could be something different. Here’s what I do know.
- They’ve ruled out three of the four things they thought it could be, including EHE
- The one remaining thing this could be is not even technically considered malignant, although it is very aggressive (obviously, based on the size)
- It is likely she can be treated with steroids as opposed to chemotherapy, which are much less aggressive and do not have the side effects of chemo, although they do have side effects (mood swings, increased appetite, irritability)
- Apparently this particular tumor shrinks significantly with steroids, which is good news because it’s still pretty clear that she will need a liver transplant
