Update: March 14, 2017
A blizzard is a good metaphor for what’s happening in Ana’s life right now. You can’t move forward in the middle of this storm – you can’t even shovel because it’s so windy, any progress is immediately erased. You can only wait it out.
Last night Ana made this connection too. I was sitting in her room chatting with her, letting her know that she could sleep in today – that no one was going anywhere. She pointed out that everyone would be stuck, just like she’s stuck. I can’t remember her exact words, but I know she found it comforting – the fact that yet another day wasn’t moving forward without her, for once. We’re all standing still right now.
So, yeah, a blizzard is a good metaphor. Imagine it lasted for days? Weeks? Months? That’s what it’s been like for Ana since late January- one long, endless storm.
Before she started declining so quickly, Ana was able to record one more song with the help of Elizabeth Littleton. She performed the song, Mother Nature’s Son, at a couple of Rock Academy shows including at the Phoenicia Festival of the Voice this past summer. Thanks to Liz and all the kids who accompanied Ana on this recording. Here’s the SoundCloud link (you may not be able to hear it on your phone unless you have the SoundCloud app.)
